Storm Update

I Am Awesome!
Fixing stuff on my car always makes me feel AWESOME! Today I:
- cleaned the cloudy headlight
- replaced the passenger side windshield wiper
- figured out how to use my dad's metric socket/ratchet/extension set (so that I could)
- change the light bulb in the non-cloudy headlight

Windshield Wipers
My driver's side wiper hasn't been working well lately. I need to buy new ones, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. It was super-rainy this morning, so I decided to switch my driver's-side-wiper with the passenger-side-wiper. It took fifteen minutes and some sore fingers, but I did it! It worked pretty well, too.
I also found out something interesting: The wipers aren't the same length! Oh well. Like I said, it worked!

I Finally Used AAA!
In 2009, my dad very nicely gave me a AAA membership for Christmas. In 2010 he renewed it for me. When I opened that present, he asked me, "Have you used it yet?"
I hadn't then, but I have now!
When I got in my car to drive to work today (for the first time since hurting my elbow!), I couldn't turn the key in my ignition. I ended up catching the bus to work, and I called AAA when I got home. They sent a locksmith, and he explained that Ford Focuses (Foci!) have a stupid lock, and that he gets called to replace one every two to three weeks. Anyway, he put in a new ignition-thingy, told me he guaranteed it for 10 years, I paid him his fee (minus the $50 that AAA contributes) and I have a car again.

I Drove Today!
Not very far -- just to the library and back. But it was my first trip in the car since hurting my elbow. Changing gears wasn't too bad. Turning the wheel was more painful. I can do it fine if I scootch my hands along the wheel, rather than crossing them over each other.
I'm definitely not ready for any long drives, but it's nice to know I can get myself to the grocery store again.

Mix CD
My new car has a CD player, so I dug out some old CDs I made when I was still using my portable CD player on the bus (before I got an iPod).
One of them was a mix CD that I had simply labeled "Mix". I had no idea what was on it...
I played it on my way home from Ped's birthday dinner tonight (Happy Birthday, Ped!) and -- WOW! -- it is a mix. There's dance/electronica, country, rock...

I'm Cursed!
Here's a quick list of the mechanical/electrical devices I've had problems with lately (in approximate chronological order):
1) My mixer.
It died. It was old; it had had a good life.
2) My car.
It died. It was old; it had had a good life.
3) My DVR.
It was being freaky. A few minutes with Comcast customer service fixed it right up.
4) My iron.
It started spewing smoke. WTF??!?! I tossed it.
5) My VCR.
Ok, this one is my bad. I dropped it, and part of the front fell off. It still works, though.
6) My internet connection.
As I've mentioned, it went out at an inopportune time. Comcast helped me fix it, though.
7) My iPod.
The buttons don't work! The scroll-wheel works fine, but I can't play songs, go up a menu, select a song, do anything except scroll up and down on the last album I was playing. I can't even reboot it because that requires pressing buttons. I'm guessing it's a mechanical problem, but I'm going to re-set it anyway, just in case it is a software thing. Of course, that will completely erase it, so, you know, that's fun.

Updates
Jana Vesala (who was injured in Tuesday's game) is ok, and will play tomorrow. Yay! Seeing her lying on the court -- bleeding -- was a little scary.
I took my new car grocery shopping today! It's fun figuring out all the little quirks of it. Like that I can hear the groceries move around in the back. And that it's easier to get in and out of it if I move the seat back before I get out (since it has those giant two-door-car doors). Wheee!!!

Bye, Bye Car!
I sold my old car today. I didn't get very much, and maybe I could have gotten more if I kept searching for another buyer, but it's out of my hair, and I can focus (get it? "Focus"!) on enjoying my new car.
When I got home (my brother gave me a ride) I felt like I had no car! I'd left my baby with strangers, never to see her again! (Sob!)
So, I filled out the sale slip, put it in an envelope, and drove my new car to the post office. I feel better now.

Trying To Sell My Car...
...Is not fun.
Also not fun? The way Seattle is playing against Atlanta tonight. And Jana Vesala getting bonked in the head, and leaving the game with a bloody towel clutched to her head. The only good part of the game is that (so far) Atlanta isn't playing very well, either.
ETA: Halftime, and the 2nd team (Tanisha Wright is the only starter in the game, and she's only been in since Jana Vesala got injured) has managed to pull ahead of Atlanta. It should be an interesting second half!
E(again)TA: The starters came back to start the third quarter, and promptly lost the lead. They almost caught up by the end of the quarter, and came alive in the fourth quarter to win by ten. This victory assures the Storm home-court advantage throughout the playoffs. There were a few Storm fans at the game (in Atlanta!). One had a sign saying "Seattle Storm 2010 Championship Tour". Hee!
One more thing: Jana Vesala was back on the bench by the end of the game. She didn't play, of course, but hopefully she's ok.

Dead End/No Outlet
What's the difference?
Today I was driving down a road that runs parallel to the freeway. There were many residential streets intersecting with the street I was on, and they all terminated at the freeway. Most of them had signs saying "Dead End", but a few said "No Outlet". What's up with that?

Merging Mayhem
Merging onto I-5 tonight, the genius in the car ahead of me decided to try to merge at 45 mph. (Traffic was going ~60 mph.)
Apparently unsatisfied with this merging plan, the driver then decided to.... (wait for it) ... HIT THE BRAKES!

A Useful Back-Up
I was driving home on the freeway tonight, cruising along at 65 mph, when all of a sudden the traffic slowed down. I wasn't sure if it was an accident or construction or what. Pretty soon I found out: There was a mattress on the road. 100 feet later, there was a a bed frame on the road. But since we were all slowed down, nobody had any trouble avoiding it!
