The Incredible Shrinking mamurd

I got my driver's license renewed today. I was really surprised at the difference between my picture from today and my picture from five years ago. I knew I'd lost some weight, but wow! I mean, I still have a double chin when I smile, but my face is oval now instead of round.

On a side note, I was surprised how many people at the DMV were unprepared for a long wait. Hello! It's the DMV. Long waits are normal. But there were people there who had to leave to go to work or doctor's appointments. What were they thinking?

Quote of the Week

I've been watching a lot of Farscape lately. This is from the fourth season episode "Bringing Home the Beacon".

Sikozu: You [plan to] assassinate Grayza?

Aeryn: She'd do the same to us.

Sikozu: All right. Then what? Did you have any plan of escape?

Aeryn: Run.

Sikozu: Anything more detailed?

Aeryn: Run quickly.

Quote of the Week

On Sunday's Amazing Race, Pat & Kate were eliminated. I was bummed for several reasons. First of all, I thought it was cool that they were Christian lesbians. A lot of people think you can't be both, so it was nice to see them on TV. Secondly, they seemed like fun, nice people, and I was looking forward to rooting for them. Lastly, Kate had one of the best lines ever:

"We are religious people, but we have no illusions that God cares whether or not we win the Amazing Race."

Pat's reply was pretty good, too. She said in mock surprise, "No? Dang."

Finally, racers who understand that God is in the tub!

Project Runway

At the end of season three, when Uli was robbed of victory, I swore I wouldn't watch the next season. Season four started last night and..... I watched it.

Sigh. One of these days I'm going to scrounge up some will-power.

Quote of the Week

I've got another bus driver quote for you this week!

As we were going down the freeway, the bus driver said:

"It's time for our native Washingtonian test. What's that stuff on the windshield? [pause] If you said 'rain', you're probably not from here. Those are sprinkles."

Amazing Donkeys

For those of you who didn't watch last night's Amazing Race, donkeys played an important part in the episode. As I watched, I was reminded that in American Sign Language, the sign for "donkey" is the exact same sign as for "stubborn".

Quote of the Week

This is from Jacob's recap of a Doctor Who episode:

The Doctor tells [Rose and Harriet] again to hush, and has to re-intimidate the aliens with his bottle of brandy and screwdriver. If I had my wish, every paragraph of every recap would contain at least one sentence like that. This show makes it much more likely.

Halloween

I dressed up for Halloween this year. It's only the second time in my adult life.

I didn't do anything too extravagant. I went as a geeky/dorky/nerdy girl. Not much of a stretch, I know! All I did was wear my Star Trek t-shirt, put my hair up in silly-looking pigtails, wore my glasses instead of my contacts, and put some nerd-identifying tape on my glasses. Like I said, nothing too fancy, but fun nonetheless.
