Confidence!

I looked up Craig Ferguson on imdb, and he was on Red Dwarf!!! He played Confidence in "Confidence and Paranoia". I couldn't really believe it was him, so I dug out my old RD tapes and sure enough, it's him! He looks a lot different (partly because that show is, like, 20 years old, and partly because Confidence is dressed so garishly) and sounds completely different (because Confidence has a New York (I think) accent).

Confidence has all the best lines in that ep, though. "Ding dong, another great idea from the guy who brought you beeeeer milkshakes!" "In space, no one can hear you cha-cha-cha!" Awesome!!

Firefly/Serenity

I still remember when Firefly premiered. I was so excited that Joss "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Whedon was making a sci-fi show. I love the fantasy genre, but sci-fi will always be my favorite.

I watched the premiere, loved it, kept watching, got to know the universe and characters.... and then watched in horror as Fox showed the pilot episode as a series finale. 'Cause that makes sense.

The fall preview issue of TV Guide (Sept. 14, 2002) said: "[...] from what little we've seen, Firefly looks ambitious, provocative and original. Underestimate the gifted Whedon at your own peril."

Who would have thought that three years after it premiered and two and half years after being cancelled, the TV show Firefly would be reborn as an insanely awesome movie called Serenity?

"Underestimate the gifted Whedon at your own peril" indeed!

Agnosticism

A while back I saw a bumper sticker that said: "Militant Agnostic: I don't know and you don't either".

I think that's both rude and stupid. Rude because, well, telling someone what to believe is always rude (and futile).

Stupid because, to me anyway, the point of agnosticism is that I DON"T KNOW! Which means that I don't have any right to tell people who do know that they're wrong.

Maybe the person with the bumper sticker thought they were being funny, but I (an agnostic) find it in bad taste. Plus, I think it makes agnostics who are tolerant of other people's religious beliefs, such as myself, look bad.

Bah!

Craig Ferguson

On Columbus Day:

"The banks are closed, but the gun shops are open. So we could always open the banks up if we really want to."

It's wrong how much I adore "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson". I've never been a fan of late night talk shows. Usually I only watch them if there's someone cool on. But recently I discovered Craig Ferguson and I've been watching as much as I can. I don't like to stay up that late, so I tape it and watch during breakfast. The guests range from not-that-great to completely-random, but I'm just there for my Craig Ferguson fix.
