Quote of the Week

From Go Fug Yourself:

How much do we love Kate Winslet? A lot. She never shows up with her boob hanging out, or wearing formal shorts, or sheer culottes, or leggings. She doesn't go to Hyde and start yelling about the characteristics of people's ladyparts, or give interviews where she sniffs that she can't believe people aren't feeding their babies organic peas grown on their own acreage. She has not hired Rachel Zoe and wasted away down to a child's size pants. (In fact, in the week's EW, she says that Emma Thompson once told her that if she [Kate] lost weight, Emma would "never fucking speak to [her] again," and that is one of the reasons we love Emma Thompson, even if she sometimes shows up places in unflattering bodices.)

Fall Finale?

This year Lost is going on hiatus for several months while another show (Daybreak) does a thirteen week run. ABC advertised the last 2006 episode as being their "fall finale". I'd never heard the term before, but it made sense.

All of a sudden, I keep seeing other shows advertising a "fall finale". Huh? Presumably these shows will return in just a few weeks. The oh-so-dramatic "fall finale" just sound pretentious.

Quote of the Week

From afterelton.com's Michael Jensen:

Since next week is Thanksgiving we're going to be taking a little break. Wednesday will be our last day with new content until the following Monday morning. (Note to closeted actors and musicians: Please don't come out after Wednesday! We really need a break. The world has lived this long without knowing you're gay. The news can wait until Monday the 27th. Thanks in advance for your consideration!)

Reba the Giant

Tonight CMT aired "Giants: Reba McEntire". It was pretty awesome. A lot of really great female singers sang Reba songs.

I have to say, thought, that not all had voices that could handle Reba songs. Leann Rimes? Sure. Kelly Clarkson? You bet. Martina McBride? Of course.

Faith Hill? Not so much. I like her, but she just doesn't have the power to pull off "You Lie". Dolly Parton had the good sense to change the tone of her song, to match it to her voice. Faith Hill tried to sing in like Reba and it really didn't work.

But overall? Awesome.

(Don't worry, Dad, I taped it for you!)

Calendar Query

Thanksgiving is next week? Really? Are you sure? Really sure?

Fourth Thursday in November, huh? And that's next week? Really? You're absolutely sure?

Well, ok. If you say so!

Quote of the Week

During some recent cleaning I found a bunch of old soap opera magazines. (Soap Opera Digest, Soap Opera Weekly, Soap Opera Magazine, Soap Opera Update, Soaps In Depth.... Bet you didn't know there were so many soap magazine, did you?) Anyway, I started reminiscing about the good old days when I watched (and loved!) General Hospital. Hence, this week's quote is from General Hospital's Bobbie, probably from around 1999 or so:

"When you've been lied to by your child and your brother, where else can you go for the truth but your mortal enemy?"

Athena vs. mamurd

A while back, my brother Sotosoroto gave me grief because my profile picture is of Athena, not me. Since he's the one who gave me the statute (that I took a picture of), you'd think he'd be more forgiving, but I guess not!

Besides, how could I resist? Athena's cool.

Quote of the Week

From Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars:

[Aeryn is in labor]

Crichton: Is there anything I can do to help?

Aeryn: Oh, I think you've done enough aready. If this was a Sebacean child, a pure one, it would've been born long ago. So how long is this going to take?

Crichton: Well, on Earth it can last days.

Aeryn: I have killed men for less.
