Heating Problem
Until recently the people who live in the apartment below me were doing a great job heating my apartment. Not too hot, not too cold.
A week ago, however, I had to turn my heater on. I'm very disappointed in my neighbors. They've really let me down!

Quote of the Week
As I got on the bus, another rider said to the driver, "There's one running [to catch the bus]."
The driver replied, "I'd be disappointed if there wasn't."

95% Disaster
I officially hate my computer. Today it froze up while I had my iPod plugged in, which erased everything on my iPod. (Apparently they're pretty serious about that "Do Not Disconnect" thing.")
It's not a total disaster. I have all the music. It's going to be a pain reloading it all, though. Plus, I have to try to reproduce my playlists by memory.
The irony is that, when it froze up, I was trying to delete a few songs. But just a few!
Sigh.

Quote of the Week
Ian McKellan was on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson the other night...
Craig: I remember hearing stories about Sir Alec Guinness, when he had done the Star Wars movies, he didn't like people bringing up Star Wars because he felt that his body of work was more important than doing those movies. Do you have a problem with the immense success of The Lord of the Rings?
Ian: No I don't. But then, I think my part in Lord of the Rings was better than his part in Star Wars.

New Show Reviews
It's time for my 2nd Annual New Show Reviews!
This year I tried out Journeyman, Pushing Daisies, Gossip Girl, Bionic Woman, and Moonlight. I'll also discuss Torchwood, which recently premiered here in North America.
Journeyman
I wasn't sure about this one; I had read an unfavorable review. But I liked it! It has an interesting idea, likable characters, and good stories. The trips to the past are fun, too. My favorite moment showed the main character, Dan, in the 1980's. Dan had jumped back wearing his bluetooth, and as he's standing on a street corner he makes eye contact with a man using one of those big boxy cell phones.
Pushing Daisies
My other favorite new show! It's incredibly hard to describe, but highly enjoyable.
Gossip Girl
This was created by the guy who created The O.C., so I was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, it wasn't nearly as fun as The O.C.. I got bored pretty quickly.
Bionic Woman
The first few minutes of the pilot episode were amazing. Unfortunately, the characters that were featured in those minutes are not the main characters. The main plots and characters are OK, but not that interesting. I haven't decided if should keep watching for the peripheral characters (who get just a few minutes of airtime each episode) or drop it completely.
Moonlight
There's been a lot of other vampire detective shows over the years (Forever Knight, Angel...) but I've enjoyed them so I thought I'd give this one a try. Unfortunately, it wasn't nearly as good as those others. Ironically, there's another vampire show on the same night (Blood Ties) that's better quality and much more fun.
Torchwood
It's finally here! The Doctor Who spin-off that I've been waiting for has finally started airing in North America. I've only seen two episodes (I have to watch it on the Canadian station since I don't get BBC-America) but it's been fun so far. I'm actually rather relieved. After waiting for so long (and having such high expectations), I was afraid I might be disappointed. I wasn't. :)

Quotes of the Week
Wow! I've gotten way behind in my weekly quotes. How'd that happen? Oh well. Time to catch up! I think I'm going to do a set of themed quotes: First line(s) of books.
From my favorite book as a child, A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L'Engle:
"It was a dark and stormy night. In her attic bedroom Margaret Murry, wrapped in an old patchwork quilt, sat on the foot of her bed and watched the trees tossing in the frenzied lashing of the wind."
From The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley:
"In my time I have been called many things: sister, lover, priestess, wise-woman, queen."
This is one of Jack's favorites. It's from The Danger by Dick Francis:
"There was a God-awful screw-up in Bologna."
This last one is my favorite. In fact, I bought and read the book simply because I loved the first line so much. It's from another Dick Francis book, Hot Money:
"I intensely disliked my father's fifth wife, but not to the point of murder."

Illogical Rash
I had a rash on my chin. Usually when I get a dry skin rash, I use hydrocortizone for a few days and it goes away. This time, though, it didn't help. I assumed I just needed to give it more time, but after over a month, I decided to stop the hydrocortizone. Within a day the redness had faded but my skin became very dry and began to peel. A co-worker suggest I use Vaseline and, after a few days, the skin stopped peeling. It's been a week since I stopped using the hydrocortizone, and I'm completely healed.
Which, you know, yay! But.....
What kind of rash was that?? Normally I'd guess I had developed an allergy to hydrocortizone, but while I was having the chin rash, I had other dry skin rashes (on my hands and face!) that were quickly cured by the hydrocortizone. I guess that means it was a different kind of rash, but I thought that hydrocortizone would work on a variety of rashes.
I'm very puzzled.
