My, How the Times Have Changed

Over a decade ago I bought the VHS box set of Pride & Prejudice. It cost $100, but I was thrilled to have a copy of my own.

Today at Costco I got the new DVD version for $16.

Squeee!

I bought the newly released DVD set of Farscape: The Complete Series the other day, and it arrived today!

[I feel I should point out, for the one person who might read this and might care, that the box set isn't completely complete. It has all four seasons, but doesn't include The Peacekeeper Wars mini-series.]

What's amazing is how tiny the box set is. The whole thing is tinier than any one of my season box sets!

It's even more impressive when you compare it to the original video sets I bought. For example, here's season two on video, old DVD, and new DVD:

I sense a Farscape marathon coming on!

Halloween

I have lists of "special" episodes of my TV shows. I have lists of birthdays, holidays, time travel, time loops, alternate universes, weddings, etc.

Since Halloween is coming up, I watched the eps from my "Halloween" list. Four episodes featured vampires, witches, and werewolves as the main characters (1 Angel, 3 Buffy). One episode featured genetically-engineer super-soldiers (Dark Angel). One episode featured grim reapers (Dead Like Me). One episode featured aliens (Farscape). And one episode featured demon hunters and a couple of angels (Supernatural).

It was an interesting group of characters to spend the holiday with!

[The best line came from Supernatural's Dean. He was in a crypt, fighting off zombies, when he realized that there were ghosts there, too: "Zombie-ghost orgy, huh? Well, that's it. I'm torching everybody."]

At Last!

I finally figured out how to copy a DVD onto a videotape without getting the picture distorted.

In other words, I finally figured out how to circumvent the DVD's anti-piracy defenses.

Hmmm.....maybe I shouldn't be announcing this.....

But it's not like I'm going to sell copies or anything like that. I just want to be able to make a "mix" tape. You know, a tape with all the good bits from a series, without the boring stuff. Like if there's a show with a few characters I like, and a few that I hate, I want to be able to make a tape that just has the good ones.

See? All perfectly innocent.
