Ugly Game

...Especially the second half.

UConn was at Louisville today. The first half was the usual sort of thing (UConn was up 33-17 at halftime), except for for PG Bria Hartley picking up two quick fouls and spending all but five minutes on the bench.

The second half, though... Eesh.

It got REALLY physical, really ugly. Rebecca Lobo tweeted "Uconn/Louisville game getting too physical. Something ugly is going to happen if these teams don't settle down." At one point UConn guard Caroline Doty had to get between UConn center Stefanie Dolson and Louisville center Sheronne Vails.

The announcers, who seemed to be aiming for a Louisville audience (despite the fact that this game aired on national TV), kept saying that Louisville had realized the only way they had a chance to win was to make it ugly.

Apparently they made it ugly in a way that made it look like UConn was making it ugly, because Louisville was in the bonus with 14:02 left in the half. (UConn didn't get there until 3:30 was left.)

The lead was cut to six at one point, but UConn held onto the lead, and won 56-46.

UConn guard Caroline Doty was definitely the player of the game. She seemed to be everywhere at once, and ended the game with 15 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals, and 1 block. (All 15 points came from 3-pointers.) She didn't play at all last year because of a torn ACL (her third!), so it's great to see her playing so well.
