Glitter and Be Gay
"Glitter and Be Gay" is a song from Candide, and apparently it's a very technically challenging song for sopranos.
I thought of it tonight because I've been re-watching Pushing Daisies (such a lovely show!) and Kristin Chenoweth (who's in PD) has sung G&BG. Her version is on YouTube:
I don't like opera, but she's such a dynamic performer that I enjoy the song.
On the other hand, I'm sure Diana Damrau is a gifted opera singer, but I don't enjoy her performance at all:
For a side-by-side comparison, take the "ha ha ha" bit. (1st video: ~3:30, 2nd video: ~3:00.) I think Kristin Chenoweth's is much more entertaining.
