Catching Ducks

From a chat she did the other day:


Question: What do you expect out of the Skylar Diggins [point guard for Notre Dame] v. Bria Hartley/Lorin Dixon [point guards for UConn] matchup?

Mechelle Voepel:  I'm really excited about it, including for what it means potentially down the line in regard to the U.S. national team. Sue Bird can't be the point guard forever, and she needs some youngster(s) to mentor to try to be the next "her" in the decade after she retires. Diggins and Hartley certainly are in the group of people who could do that. And I like how Dixon has kept her chin up and contributed even though she's been through some low periods at UConn. She has a lot to be proud of in how she's stayed a competitor.


[p.s. I know the question was about the Diggins, Hartley, and Dixon, but isn't Courtney Vandersloot an obvious choice to take over "being" Sue Bird on Team USA? I know a lot will depend on what happens when they all get to the WNBA, but based the evidence so far, I think CV's the new Sue!]
