Quote of the Day: John Walters

From The Same River Twice, a quote that amuses me for reasons I can't fully explain:

UConn goes on a 10-0 run in two and half minutes, and BC never gets close again. With four and half minutes remaining, the Huskies lead 66-43. Diana Taurasi, whose high school jersey (23) was retired two nights earlier back in Chino, has the ball in the low post. She is out of position but, like an enthusiastic understudy who knows all of the characters' lines, relishes the opportunity to display her repertoire.

Using her left forearm to hold off her defender, Diana throws a soft hook shot off the backboard and into the basket. There are not 20 college centers who could make that shot so effortlessly. Diana looks at the Boston College defender and says with a swagger, "That's my hook shot."

On the bench Geno turns to [assistant coach] Tonya Cardoza. "What did she say?"

"She said, 'That's my hook shot,'" Tonya replies.

"That's why I thought she said."
