More on the Katie Smith Trade
From Swish Appeal. This is my big "huh?" of the whole deal:
"The biggest unknown for us outsiders is more financial than anything - part of the difficulty of executing this trade was working out salaries. It's conceivable that Monroe and her sixth pick salary (more than Thomas') won't make the final roster depending on how much Smith signed for and whether the Storm have any other deals to move non-minimum salaries."
The Storm already have Sue Bird, Lauren Jackson, and Swin Cash who are all veterans and stars, and presumably are making the max. The other two starters are younger, but not that much younger. (This will be Camille Little's 5th year and Tanisha Wright's 7th.) Add in Le'Coe Willingham and Ashley Robinson (both 8th year) and that doesn't leave a lot of money left in the pot. The last three players are going to have to be cheap, and I can't imagine that Belinda Snell is cheap enough. She's only really played four years in the league (2005, 2006, 2007, and 2009), but still!
That final roster should be interesting....
