Playoff Game #4
I expected the Storm to lose this game, but hoped for a win. Midway through the thrid quarter, it looked like my expectations were justified. As Jayda Evans wrote in her liveblog, "At this rate they look like they're just trying to not get blown out."
I even mentally-composed a blog post about the loss, and how I was planning on getting a ticket for Game 3 here in Seattle. Jayda Evans continued, "Dupree has a pair of silky layins to help the Mercury to a 14-6 run to start the second half. It doesn't look like the Storm has what it takes to defeat the defending champs on the road. Good thing there's a Game 3 at KeyArena."
But then....
Seattle held Phoenix scoreless for the last couple of minutes, and kept chipping away at the lead. And then it was tied. And then Bird made a three-pointer to pull ahead. But! As Jayda Evans says: "I knew the shot was going in, but seriously thought Taurasi, who had never lost a postseason series, would counter. Even Bird said afterward that she expected it, pumping her hands downward to keep her teammates calm after her heroic basket. 'I don't celebrate until it's over,' Bird said."
Well, you can celebrate now, Sue Bird!
