Catching Ducks

Tofutti Cutie gave me a book called The Sparrow (by Mary Doria Russell) for Christmas. I just finished reading it and it's wonderful. A solid first contact story with lots of anthropology, biology, and religion mixed in. It gave me a lot to think about. Here's an interesting quote:

Why is it that God gets all the credit for the good stuff, but it's the doctor's fault when shit happens? When the patient comes through, it's always "Thank God", and when the patient dies, it's always blame the doctor.
